Dual Enrollment

• A college transcript will follow a student around even after high school graduation. Only students that are serious about their education and taking college classes should request to sign up. 
• Multiple final grades of ‘D’, ‘F’, or ‘W’ on a college transcript may impact financial aid eligibility and other things after high school.
• The student is responsible for all paperwork and communication with the college including enrollment, registration, drop requests, and delivering their college transcript to the high school. 
• Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) applies to all dual enrollment classes 
  • Students must provide written permission to the college in order for anyone to communicate with a college instructor or access a student’s educational records. 
• Parent/guardian and High School Counselor permission is required in order to register for classes. 
• The High School Counselor will: 
  • Assist students and parents with college class selection.
  • Confirm requested SPAD classes are scheduled outside of the high school day.
  • Identify and discuss which high school graduation and/or UC/CSU a-g college entrance requirements may be satisfied by a specific college class.
  • Consider the student’s maturity, aptitude, academic standing, and overall GPA when making a determination to approve dual enrollment.  

1. The student completes a Mendocino College application including the parent information box.

2. The student fills out the appropriate dual enrollment application forms

   1. If they plan to take a class that is taught at WHS or SHS then they complete the:

      1. 2-page College Career Access Pathway (CCAP) Application and Enrollment Forms. 

      2. Parent/guardian, student, and High School Counselor signature is required. 

   2. If they plan to take a class offered directly through the college outside of the high school day then they complete the: 

      1. 2-page Special Admission Application for Dual Enrollment Students (SPAD) form 

      2. Parent/guardian, student, and High School Counselor signature is required. 

3. The student requests a meeting with their High School Counselor and brings the completed college application and CCAP or SPAD forms to the meeting

4. The student returns the completed college application and CCAP/SPAD form to the Mendocino College Admissions and Records office in one of three ways: 

   1. In person at the Willits North County Center or Admissions & Records Office at the main college campus in Ukiah

5. The High School Counselor may assist with delivering completed CCAP forms only. 

• After a college class ends, the student is responsible for bringing a copy of their college transcript to the high school Registrar in order to receive credit toward their high school diploma. This can be done in two ways: 

  • Students may request their official college transcript in person at the Willits North County Center or through Admissions and Records at the main campus in Ukiah. 

  • Students may login to their MyMendo account in front of a school official and print out an unofficial copy of their transcript.

• Students may earn 3.33 high school credits per 1 college unit. 

  • Below is a high school credit conversion chart:

1. Students must notify their High School Counselor prior to dropping a college class.  

    

The drop may result in changes to the student’s high school schedule, education plan, graduation status, and/or college eligibility. 

2. Students are responsible for tracking drop deadlines for the course(s) they are enrolled in.  

3. Consequences of dropping a college class:

   1. ‘W’ for withdrawal on their college transcript

      1. A ‘W’ is preferable to an ‘F’ 

   2. Students do not earn any college or high school credits for a final grade of ‘W’ or ‘F’ 

   3. Multiple grades of ‘D’, ‘F’. or ‘W’ on a college transcript may impact financial aid eligibility and other things after high school.

   4. Involuntary changes to their high school schedule (CCAP classes only)

4. If a student decides to drop a college class, they are responsible for contacting the Mendocino College Admissions and Records Office to complete the drop process. 

• The University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU) a-g college entrance requirements is a sequence of classes that students must complete to be eligible for admission to the UC and CSU systems directly out of high school. 

• Students must earn a letter grade of C- or better in a-g approved high school courses.

  • SHS students and families, please refer to the Bright Thinker course catalog.

• Students must earn a letter grade of C or better in all a-g applicable dual enrollment classes.

• Contact your student’s High School Counselor to develop a comprehensive education plan that includes completion of the UC/CSU a-g requirements.
