The Mendocino County Library offers live real-time homework assistance via laptop, tablet, or phone from qualified tutors using state curriculum and standards. Students can access free tutoring in most K-12 subjects 24 hours per day using the HelpNow program.

Every day between 10:00 am and 10:00 pm, assistance is available in core K-12 subjects in the following languages:

• English

• Spanish

• Mandarin

• Cantonese

• Vietnamese

• Tagalog

Mendocino Collge offers 0-unit labs in Math and English. Students may register at anytime during the semester to access tutoring/support from Mendocino College instructors. There is a $13 fee to register per semester. Please contact your student's School Counselor for more information.

Students currently enrolled in Mendocino College classes can access NetTutor through their Mendocino College Canvas account. NetTutor can provide tutoring in any subject and is available 24 hours per day 7 days per week.

• The Learn To Be Foundation is a nonprofit created to enrich students through free online tutoring. Students interact with a tutor through audio and digital chalkboards. Sessions are available from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and subjects include math, language arts and sciences.

• You'll be connected to a coach within minutes

• Coaches are usually college students volunteering to help

• The website is interactive and hosts a library of more than 3,400 free videos covering grade-school subjects, as well as advanced studies like finance. 

• Students can customize their lessons and instantly receive feedback to track improvement.

• Interactive Mathematics aims to interest and educate people in the joys of mathematics. It does so by providing clear examples, relating things to the "real world" and providing interactive applets that allow the user to explore mathematical concepts.

• The Purdue University Online Writing Lab (OWL) offers assistance in a variety of English-related areas, like writing, research, grammar, and ESL, for students from grade 7 through college. 

• Here kids will find advice on structuring a thesis or essay, doing research, and avoiding composition pitfalls.

• The Guide to Grammar and Writing is sponsored by the Capital Community College Foundation, a nonprofit 501 c-3 organization that supports scholarships, faculty development, and curriculum innovation.

• Detailed pages explain parts of speech, sentence structure, and paragraph flow. 

• This site offers very in-depth explanations and has different methods for testing students' knowledge, instead of providing only one basic quiz for each topic.

• Our AI-powered math solver walks you through the solving process, so you’ll actually understand why the answer is right.

• Use this app anywhere, on the go, without seeking out a teacher’s help or losing time down the Google rabbit hole searching for answers.

• The best part is that you’ll be able to solve future problems more quickly and with greater ease on your own, whether on your homework or an exam!

• HippoCampus is powered by The NROC Project, a non-profit, member-driven project focused on new models of digital content development, distribution, and use.

• HippoCampus.org is a free, core academic web site that delivers rich multimedia content--videos, animations, and simulations--on general education subjects to middle-school and high-school teachers and college professors, and their students, free of charge.

• Users do not need to register or log in to use the site.

• The Physics Classroom is an online, free to use physics website developed primarily for beginning physics students and their teachers. 

• The website features a variety of sections intended to support both teachers and students in the tasks of learning and teaching physics.

• Duolingo is the free science-based language education platform that has organically become the most popular way to learn languages online.

• Duolingo's ultimate goal is to give everyone access to a private tutor experience through technology.

Tips & Tricks for Success: 

Many students, at some point in their academic life, struggle with one or more courses. There should be no shame in acknowledging this hurdle. Though there is no silver bullet to cure academic struggles, there are tips and resources available that may help:

• Organization of backpack and binders

• Use of a weekly planner (available at most office supply stores and online retailers like Amazon)

• Communication with teachers via telephone, e-mail, or in person

• Regular monitoring of Aeries parent/student portal accounts to follow progress and grading

• PUT YOUR PHONE AWAY!!!! (don’t try to do your homework with your phone next to you)

• DO NOT SLEEP WITH YOUR PHONE IN YOUR BEDROOM (turn off your phone by 9pm and place it in a charging station in a common room away from your bedroom, phones disrupt sleep patterns and make students groggy during the school day.)

• DO NOT PROCRASTINATE!!! (try to plan and prepare in advance so emergencies do not derail your success)

• Get involved in extra curricular activities in the community or at WHS (it's proven the more involved a student is on their campus, the better they do academically and emotionally)

•  Attend classes every day on time and prepared

• Do not plan family trips during school days
